An overnight in Mont Saint Michel is in itself a great experience and compensates for the hotel being just standard. The location is perfect and easy to find. The focus and the effort to be green sustainable is noticeable and appreciated. Room on the 2nd floor of the main hotel was a bit tired and basic, not as charming as the pictures try to show, but it was quiet and the view on the back of authentic buildings was rather pleasant. Bathroom was spacious compared to the room. All very clean. The dark brown plastic cups on the coffee/tea tray is a bit of a let down ( I used the cardboard cups from the bathroom instead). Breakfast was served in a charming characterful dining room in another place close to the abbey and offers great quality products: the most delicious scrambled eggs, fine quality of Normandy cheese, tasty home made cake, etc...

Downsides: The room was faintly malodorous, musty smelling. Carpet needed cleaning. Also a squeaking floorboard or two under the carpet. There is mold, especially on the bathroom tile and grout. Perhaps the mold was the cause of our stuffy noses the entire time there. The view from the 1st floor window was just the shops and walls across the street. Pluses: The hotel is inside the walls of Mont St. Michel, so the location is good. Front desk staff was helpful, with good English-speaking ability to make up for my limited French. Conclusion: I could not in good conscioence recommend this hotel. It appears there is better value to be had at the nearby hotels in the area but off the island. For those keen to stay in the heart of the place, there must be options delivering better value.

The rooms are maybe a little older and smaller, but they’re CLEAN and you get to stay at Le Mount Saint Michel. When we checked in (early), our room wasn’t ready but they were friendly and held our bags at no charge. When we actually checked in, they moved us to a sister property, so just be aware that can happen! Breakfast buffet was really good and had a ton of options. There isn’t conditioner or body lotion in the rooms so bring that if you use it. I know some people complained about the size or age of rooms but I would say to keep expectations in check because this magical place was built forever ago so it’s not going to be like modern hotels. We loved it.
