Krimml, Austria

A small site owned and managed by the family that runs the hotel. Friendly and welcoming. It is a 10 minute walk to the Krimml falls which are well worth the effort of the long walk to the top. Site is relaxed and informal. Has electric and a good fresh water supply. BUT, there is no chemical disposal point. The site fee includes entry to the falls so makes the cost good value even after accounting for the €3.50 cost of a shower in the hotel.

This is not a campsite. It’s an overpriced Stellplatz which is hugely overpopulated in high season and most of the pitches are not even level. Despite calling ahead and being assured there’s plenty of space, we were “lucky” to squeeze in between two other vans with no space for awning. It’s a gravel car park, very close to the road for the price of a campsite. We were also charged for our 2 children, which are 2 years old and 2 months old respectively. In 3 weeks of staying in campsites across Germany, Austria and Slovenia - not once have we seen campsites charge for children under 3. We paid €47 for a one night stop, which doesn’t even include showers (that’s an extra €3.50 per person per day) and an inconvenient walk to use the toilets in the hotel.
