Pensiunea Valcan: A Culinary Adventure (With Canine Oversight) Our recent foray into the gastronomic delights of Pensiunea Valcan was, shall we say, memorable. While we can't speak to the interior comforts of the establishment, we can certainly attest to the unique pre-dinner entertainment provided right at the entrance. As we approached, eager to sample the local fare, we were greeted by what could only be described as a canine guardian of the perimeter – a truly enormous stray dog who, with a gaze that could curdle milk, politely yet firmly discouraged any immediate advancement into the restaurant's hallowed grounds. This magnificent beast, clearly the unofficial bouncer, added an unexpected layer of anticipation to our meal. We commend Pensiunea Vâlcan for employing such an effective (and intimidatingly large) security system. Once we successfully negotiated passage (after what felt like a delicate diplomatic mission), the food itself was… well, it was food. It filled a void, and in a place where the pre-meal show is quite literally a standoff, sometimes that's all you can ask for. So, if you're looking for a dining experience with an unforgettable welcome committee, Pensiunea Valcan delivers. Just make sure to bring dog treats, or a very persuasive argument. Otherwise food was decent, maybe a bit expensive for the spot, but who cares when huger hits, right?

The room was nice, clean and quite big. It also had a big bathroom. It's also one of the only options for lodging if you go to Moldovita outside of tourist season. It's also close to Moldovita Monastery. When we went there (March 2023) the prices for a double room were 200 RON/room or 260 with breakfast included.

Very nice overall. Two important negatives: long waiting time for food and sports court poorly maintained (absent tennis net and surrounding net)
