Be very careful when dealing with this hotel. In August I booked a reservation at this hotel for two nights in October. The “Standard Flex" rate was 332.50 per night. This was the most expensive rate offered by the hotel for a refundable reservation. Nevertheless, because my wife and I are in our mid-60s, one of the realities of traveling when you are older is that it is necessary to pay the most expensive rates so as to have the option of cancelling one day in advance. The other refundable rate, that the hotel offers is s “Flex 7” rate and the rate for this reservation was 185 for one night and 150 for another night. Under this rate you must cancel within in seven days. Unfortunately, five days prior to our planned visit to Pavia, my wife was injured, and we needed to return to the US for medical treatment. I notified the hotel that we needed to cancel our reservation. The hotel first responded by requesting a copy of the reservation confirmation. I thought this was unusual because you would assume that the hotel would have a copy of this email and have all the details of the reservation on their system. It is unlikely, that the normal procedure at this hotel is to request that every guest seeking to cancel a reservation provide the hotel with the hotel’s reservation confirmation email. Nevertheless, I went through my emails and sent the confirmation back to the hotel. The hotel then responded that my reservation was covered by the Flex 7 rate and not the Standard Rate and therefore, because I was five days from the date of arrival, I would be charged for the two nights stay. I then looked at the conformation email and realized for the first time that there was a disconnect between the rate I booked and the email confirmation. Although I had selected the more expensive “Standard Flex” rate, somehow the confirmation stated that my reservation was covered by ”Flex 7” cancellation terms. When I pointed out this discrepancy to the hotel...that I had booked the room at the "Standard Flex" rate of 332.50 not the lower Flex 7 rate, the hotel simply responded that the Flex 7 rate in August had decreased due to "market demand.” …meaning that the Flex 7 rate had decreased 50% in 45 days.

Arnaboldi Palace is a wonderful hotel which I can strongly recommend to anybody who wants to visit Pavia. It's a unique place, right in the center of the old town: we could see the Duomo from our window. The staff is excellent (thank you, Signore Paolo and Sergio!), exceptionally helpful, the rooms are large and clean, the palatial breakfast room, which is the ballroom of the palazzo ballroom, is amazing.
