Although the £60 price for 2 nights was very good for the Dales, I thought the B&B was very old and extremely cluttered. The Temperance House has been converted into a Christian bookshop downstairs with 3 rooms for guests upstairs - and unbelievably the "dining table" at breakfast remained stacked with books while I had my meal at a rather cramped space at the end of the table. See the pic. I had expected the B&B to be old - and it was. It has an interesting history. But it lacked charm. Old-fashioned furniture and fittings - candlewick bedspread on top of a duvet. The sash windows in the Blenkinsop room were in the process of being repaired. The window in the shared bathroom & toilet was jammed shut. My bedroom had an original Victorian iron fire grate. On the plus side the bed was clean and comfortable enough, and the hostess Elizabeth was friendly and helpful with information about local walks. So I didn't have the heart to complain about the rather ridiculous weird breakfast arrangements. She has a selection of interesting original pictures and murals in the house, and a travelogue booklet describing her coast to coast walk with her husband David. Some items on the breakfast were overcooked - Elizabeth did apologise! Although nothing was badly wrong there was a lot of small niggles that weren't right. If you are a devout Christian looking for budget accommodation in Reeth this may well suit you. But I wouldn't go back despite the decent value for money. I wasn't comfortable and there was a rather claustrophobic vibe in my opinion. However Reeth itself did have a very pleasant peaceful Dales charm and character (picture 1 shows the view over the village green from the Old Temperance House).
