The host Rosa is very kind lady but all the rest isn’t the reason you should stay here. We were walking Camino Norte and instead of staying in Deba our agency booked us rooms here. Next day we have to add km to very difficult route. The house is old dated and not very clean. There is no restaurant or shop nearby and the dinner and breakfast provided in the house weren’t very good.

You know what? I had an ok stay here. I stayed here one night whilst walking the Camino del Norté. I read a lot of negative reviews prior, so my expectations were low. But, the lady of the house was lovely and even though she couldn't speak English and i had broken Spanish, we were able to communicate. I had a clean and quiet room. I was the only one staying there that evening and she was kind enough to make me dinner at a time I wanted (6pm... Unheard of in Spain!) and gave me a lovely, home cooked breakfast in the morning. The wifi was a bit spotty, but still worked. You are a 2km, difficult trek away from Deba, so be prepared to be stuck there once you arrive if you don't have a car and too tired to do the return trek!
Myhome Review
We arrived with some apprehensions given the mixed reviews, but our experience was very positive. The farmhouse is quite rusty and has definitely seen better days, however Rosa is a lovely host. My wife and I arrived ~4 pm. Rosa made us a lovely meal and asked when we wanted to head out in the am. The room is clean, the bed is clean, the shower had good pressure and plenty of hot water which was perfect for our recovery. The service is a 5 with a lower rating for the room and location. The location is right next to the Camino trail but ~2 km before you get to Deba. We were booked here by Santiago Ways. If you’re on el Camino, this hotel is convenient to the trail but not good for the next day. The next day is a tough hike to Markina so ideally stay in Deba. The hike to Markina has lots of elevation and no services along the way. As such, you have to carry all your water and lots of food for the day. Again, I highly recommend you stay in Deba so you don’t begin the next day to Markina with a very steep 2km downhill.
