We had a great stay at Giomici castle! The location is amazing with beautiful views all around and centered between Assisi, Perugia and Gubbio. Many thanks to Alessandra and Marco for the great service and tips about what to visit. The breakfast was excellent and the dinner was also nice! For us it was a bit pricey to eat in every night but considering that the room itself has a good price this was okay for us. Plenty of other dinner options nearby if it would be outside of your budget. They even changed a course of the dinner for us because we don’t like to eat mushrooms. The room was very clean and the decorations fit into the ‘castle’ theme. The English of the staff was very good which is a big plus!

Castello di Giomici in Umbria, Italy, is a breathtaking gem perched on a hill, about ten minutes from Valfabbrica. While easily accessible, I wouldn't recommend a taxi due to cost. The castle, with its centuries-old central tower, is an awe-inspiring spectacle. Exploring the grounds, you can hike and relax in an atmosphere steeped in history. The hotel offers a limited number of rooms, divided between the castle and nearby buildings. The castle rooms are immaculately clean, featuring canopy beds with mosquito nets, modern bathrooms, TVs, desks, and antique furniture. The tranquility is unmatched, with no traffic noise ensuring a peaceful night's sleep. An outdoor terrace offers stunning views, perfect for enjoying drinks. The climb up the tower provides a panoramic view of Umbria. Dinner, served in four traditional Umbrian courses, was outstanding. The dining experience was lively, yet the rooms remained quiet. Special mention to Marco and the staff for their exceptional service. The owner's hospitality was equally commendable. This was, without doubt, the best accommodation on the Cammino di San Francesco. Highly recommended, and I will definitely return!

Unfortunately the whole experience was a let down. Felt the castle was very commercial - first impression I got after walking in was ‘Vegas.’ An experience for kids, not serious historians. The room, extremely cold. Severely lacked sufficient heating, ended up sleeping in jumpers. Went for the half board and this was a mistake - should have read other reviews. The addition €60 for dinner - cold congealed ‘truffle’ pasta. Zero truffle taste, nor any truffle to be seen. The ‘buffet’ starters and dessert was made up of 2 types of cold cut, 2 types of cheese and some cold bread; dessert, some cold slices of cake. Coffee/tea/water was charged extra! One of the service staff was even wearing a down jacket and beanie INSIDE the dining area during breakfast service, clearly a lack of heating. Unfortunately a poor experience. If you have to stay, I’d recommend the basic deal, skip dinner and go in the summer when heating is not required. My mistake - I should have read other reviews - all complaints are about food and heating, I experienced the same.
