A three day stay in the first week of March was amazing. The welcome was efficient and friendly, an approach which was maintained with a smile and willingness to please throughout our visit. Our room was nothing short of magnificent. Large, warm, well-furnished with sofa, chairs and table and equipped with everything you could need including drinks and mini bar. The bed huge and very comfortable, the bathroom large and spotless. Our sea a view lovely so the sound of waves on the beach only 100 years away lulled us to sleep every night. The outside terrace provided a sheltered place to sit outside (even in March) and the provision of blankets over the back of the chairs for warmth as the sun went down indicative of the care taken of the guests. The village itself, small, charming and the beach outstanding (when the tide goes out). It was fundamentally as I remembered it from my childhood visits 66 years ago. If your idea of a beach holiday is amusement arcades, and candyfloss Hope Cove won’t float your boat but if its sea air, amazing beaches and walks with a fantastic pub to stay in then there aren’t many places better to be. I don’t want to pile on too much praise as we’ll be going again soon, and I don’t want the place to be booked up but this is deffinately somewhere to keep going back to.

Delicious food! All three of us had the sea bass 'catch of the day', which was cooked to perfection. Mmmmmmm! The cherry and almond crumble was amazing too! The delightful waiter who had only been there a couple of weeks, was very jolly and made us feel sooo welcome. She was super friendly to Vera too, our friend's lovely lab. Thanks. Second time we've been and it didn't disappoint. Lovely buzzing vibes and convivial atmosphere. We'll be back!

This was our fourth visit to a St Austell Brewery hotel, and we’ve really come to love them for their fantastic locations, friendly staff, great rooms, and consistently good food. Our stay at the Hope & Anchor Pub and Hotel largely lived up to the high expectations set by our previous visits, with the exception of breakfast. The room was beautifully designed, well equipped, and spotlessly clean. We really appreciated the Nespresso machine with fresh milk and a good selection of teas. The shower was lovely and hot with great pressure, and the sea view was absolutely amazing, a real highlight of the stay. We also ate in the pub during our visit and couldn’t fault it. The food was fresh, beautifully cooked, and the service was incredible. Worth every penny. Breakfast was unfortunately a bit of a let-down. The gentleman serving appeared to be new, so no grudges there, but there was a manageress who made a brief appearance and then wasn’t seen again. The buffet wasn’t refilled, leaving just two pastries and enough juice for a single glass. There was also no strawberry jam, honey, yoghurt, hash browns, or black pudding, I’m not sure whether these items had run out or simply aren’t offered here. Despite this, we would certainly return, as the overall experience was very enjoyable and the positives far outweighed the negatives.
