Gasthof Waldesruh

I stayed at this guesthouse with my husband for a week while 8 months pregnant. The positive aspects: good and abundant food, very attentive cleaning staff, and a nice location by the river. Areas for improvement: Upon arrival, I was told that the room I had booked had a shared bathroom. I explained it was a mistake and we offered to pay the difference for an upgrade to a room with a private bathroom, especially considering my condition. The answer was a blunt “no,” with the explanation that all rooms were occupied. Only when I showed the receptionist, Lisa, that their own website indicated a room with a private bathroom would be free midweek, was the upgrade finally granted. It is true that the booking error was mine, but I had never before encountered a 3-star hotel offering rooms without a private bathroom, with the only available shower located in the spa, mixed men and women, and completely open without even a curtain. Overall, Lisa seemed annoyed by every request, even for basic information that is usually explained at check-in (such as how to access the hotel late in the evening or how the Wi-Fi worked). She also scolded us in an unfriendly way for minor things, such as using the wrong plate for salad on the first evening. Andrea, another receptionist, was kinder but unfortunately not fluent in English. In the end, we felt unwelcome and almost like outsiders throughout the whole stay. A real pity, because with more attention to guest hospitality, this guesthouse could truly match the quality it already has in other aspects.

Stayed there for a night to ski at Hochoetz: Comfortable rooms, friendly service, excellent food and EV charger. What’s not to like? Note that some rooms (perhaps one room on every floor) do not have en-suite shower and toilet. If this is an issue for you, read your booking carefully…
