Albergo Zumstein

The hotel's dated appearance doesn't detract from its well-deserved 5-star rating. In a tourism landscape increasingly focused on appearances and increasingly distant from the true spirit of mountain living, we were pleasantly surprised by the authentic, old-fashioned, simple, and friendly atmosphere, where we felt at home. The room and bathroom were comfortable and clean. We'd like to thank the lady who gave us some great tips on hiking trails and who prepared a tray of leftover breakfast pastries for us to take away—delicious and entirely homemade!

The kindness and helpfulness of the staff unfortunately doesn't make up for some shortcomings, such as the uncomfortable mattress, the very narrow shower stall (for very thin people), and the shower water that takes 15 minutes to heat up (in the morning). The breakfast is varied but lacking in savory options. The single room was small but overall well-stocked, and the view of Monte Rosa (not from the room, mind you) is spectacular.

Very dated hotel, we arrived as a group. We were given a room with a disgusting bathroom and a persistent sewage smell. The bed was extremely low, with basically just two bases and a mattress on top. But the bathroom was the problem... with a tub that doubled as a bidet and, of course, a curtain (not ideal in COVID times), a sink at child's height, and a toilet attached to the radiator, risking knocks... If they offer you a room on the third floor with a bidet shower tray... avoid it... otherwise, the view is breathtaking...
