Casa Sol

We arrived after a long wet windy day on the Fishermans trail. And found the room clean but a bit damp. But the worst thing was, that the sheets / bedding smelled damp / moldy like they came out of an old cupboard, and there was sand in my bed! I don’t mind the decor of a room being simple / old, but your bed and the sheets have to be crisp and clean!!! Unfortunately all was sold out in Carrapateira or we would have left. Definitely not worth the price we paid, which is what we’ve paid on average up until now on the trail and the cheaper rooms could have been as simple/ small and with older decor, they were always clean! It’s not nice sleeping in a bed that feels damp and smells moldy. Definitely below standards. This room would have been ok if more attention had been paid to clean, fresh smelling bedding. Just not OK now.

The reviews for Casa Sol seem dated and a bit unfair, so here's a 2025 update: Agreed, there is not a lot to Carrapateira, and Casa Sol is a long walk on the far side of town. It is close to the beach and Fisherman Trail, so convenient for hikers. The rooms are basic but clean, comfortable, and quiet. The kitchen had all we needed for a self-serve breakfast and despite the lodging being full, we never saw or heard any other guests. It was pleasantly comfortable and value-priced for the one night we were there.
